Regulation of blood vessels.

چکیده
THE CARDIOVASCULAR system serves the biologic organism as a transportation and mixing system. The demalnd by the organism for this service varies in different tissues and at different times while the volume of blood in the organism tends to remain constant. The cardiovascular system fulfills its function, therefore, by varying the rate and the distribution of blood flow. Blood vessels play a major role in controlling the rate of flow of blood by affecting the resistance to flow, and they possess the entire responsibility for the distribution of the blood and its flow pathways. The primary aspect of blood vessels that affects the flow and distribution of blood is their caliber, i.e., their internal radius. This discussion will deal primarily with the factors that control the caliber of blood vessels and with the role of these factors in the regulation of the circulation of blood. The concept of control of the caliber of blood vessels by the nervous system is relatively new. Moreover, the mechanisms by which the caliber of blood vessels vary as a result of nervous influences are only beginning to be understood and evaluated. Indeed, the youthfulness of many of our concepts of physiology and medicine is so striking that I cannot avoid mentioning it. As late as 1831, Dr. E. Weber, a well-known Germnan physician, said, "I believe that flushing and pallor could be explained if it could be taken for granted that the caliber of arteries becomes larger and smaller under nervous influence. "1 Only slowly has evidence begun to accrue during the past century that supports the idea of nervous control of the heart and blood vessels. It was not until after the

Role of Local Nerves and Prostaglandins in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in the Rabbit
The mechanisms underlying cerebral vasodilatation during hypercapnia are not fully understood. To examine the role of nerves and prostaglandins in the regulation of basal blood flow and in hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in the cerebral blood vessels of rabbit.Cerebral blood flow was measured by laser Doppler flow-meter in 18 NZW rabbits anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital. Tetrodetoxin ...
متن کاملRole of Nitric Oxide and ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in Rabbit
Background: The mechanisms underlying cerebral hypercapnic vasodilatation are not fully understood. Objective: To investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) and ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in basal blood flow regulation and hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in rabbit cerebral blood vessels. Methods: The change in cerebral blood flow was measured by a laser Doppler flowmeter in 18 Ne...
متن کاملThe role of adenosine A2 receptors in regulation of pial vessels blood flow in anesthetized morphine dependent rats.
Introduction:Adenosine as a potent vasodilator has physiological role in regulation of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF). Metod: Laser-Dِoppler flowmetry technique was used to study pial vessels blood flow responses to adenosine receptors agonists and antagonist. Male Sprague Dawley rats (250-350g) that were housed in standard conditions, were anesthetized with Urethane (1.5g/kg). Adenosine ...
متن کاملInvestigation of Response to Angiotensin (Ang ) and its Receptor Subtypes in Acutely Inflamed Joint Blood Vessels in Rabbit
Introduction: Inflammatory joint diseases are common in elderly, and regulation of joint blood flow (JBF) is important in these conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the response of inflamed joint blood vessels to angiotensin (Ang ), a vasoconstrictor factor which has been shown to be produced in inflamed joints locally. Identification of Ang receptor subtypes in joint blood ve...
متن کاملDecrease of the responsiveness of beta-2 adrenoceptors of diabetic rat knee joint blood vessels in acute inflammation
Beta-2 adrenoceptors in blood vessels are one of the active factors that play a role in regulation of tissue blood flow. in diabetic angiopathy, responsiveness of these receptors is decreased, while that is increased in inflammation. According to these opposite effects, the aim of this study was to investigate the vasodilatory response of knee joint blood vessels to salbutamol (Beta-2 adreno...
متن کاملCEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW REGULATION IN ANESTHETIZED MORPHINE DEPENDENT RATS: THE ROLE OF THE ADENOSINE SYSTEM
Adenosine has many of the characteristics of a regulator of cerebral blood flow and adenosine receptors change in morphine dependency. In this study the changes in adenosine receptors' responsiveness of pial vessels in the hind limb area of the sensory cortex were evaluated in morphine dependent rats (MDR) using the laser Doppler flowmetry technique. Adult male Sprague Dawley rats (250-350 ...
